Brisbane by telehealth

Brisbane's urban area runs from the Moreton Bay region to Logan and west to Ipswich, and three Primary Health Networks cover it. For the 2,745,086 people the ABS counts in the Brisbane urban area (June 2025, an increase of 257,518 people since 2021), a LeafLine Clinic consultation happens by video or telephone with an AHPRA-registered Clinician. Nobody needs a referral to book.

Patients in Brisbane take their consultation from home or from a private room at work. The appointment runs the same way in every suburb, by video or telephone, and the trip across Brisbane drops out of it.

The QLD rules for a patient in Brisbane

For an adult, Queensland has no state approval of its own in this kind of care, and its Regulation contains no per-patient dependence approval for it. The only application your Clinician lodges is the federal one.

Section 41 of the Medicines and Poisons Act 2019 (Qld) requires the prescriber to check QScript before every monitored prescription, and your Clinician records the result in your file.

The federal side is the same everywhere. Our guide to getting a prescription through SAS-B explains the TGA approval, and if you are moving from another clinic, the Queensland changing-clinics page covers what transfers and what does not.

Your consultation, taken in Brisbane

  1. Check your eligibility

A short confidential questionnaire tells you whether the service is a fit before you pay for anything. LeafLine sees adults aged 18 and over.

  2. Book video or telephone

Choose video if you have a camera and a steady connection, or telephone if you would rather. Both reach the same Clinician and run the same way. Support and bookings run 9am to 7pm local time, year round.

  3. What to have ready

Keep your Medicare card, your home address and a list of what you currently take, with doses, within reach. Letters or results from other practitioners help if you have them. A closed room or a parked car gives you the privacy the conversation needs.

  4. After the consultation

A consultation does not end in a prescription by default. If the Clinician considers a treatment appropriate and it needs a TGA approval, they lodge a Category B application in their own name, together with any QLD application, and wait for both before prescribing. Later reviews follow the same video or telephone format.

Primary Health Networks in Brisbane

Brisbane is divided between 3 Primary Health Networks: Brisbane North PHN, Brisbane South PHN and Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN. Which one covers you depends on your suburb, and the Australian Government's PHN locator will tell you.

The Australian Government funds 31 Primary Health Networks to plan and commission local primary care, such as after-hours and allied health services, without seeing patients themselves. LeafLine Clinic is independent of every PHN and receives no PHN funding.
